Also on the island of Marken it’s now a special day.On the former island, opposite the village meeting place, yesterday two memorials were unveiled. One monument is raised in memory of some “Marker” men who did not return to the island after the Second World War, the other monument to the crew of a British bomber, who in 1943 crashed into the lake, not far from Marken.Because the English link the promotors of the monuments chose to reveal the memorials on November 11. This is in the countries of the Commonwealth Remembrance Day, on which victims of war-actions are remembered.The unveiling took place in the presence of a large number of relatives of the crew of the British aircraft and was guided by Christian Musicalgroup Juliana. At the unveiling Commissioner of the Queen Johan Remkes was present, who is also the patron of the provincial department of the Dutch Military War and Service Victims, and Lt.. Cdr.
