History:On Wednesday January 15th 1941 at22:50 hours in the area of the radar position "Salzhering" over the Dutch coast of Callantsoog a night fighter was controlling the airspace. Oberleutnant Egmont Zur Lippe-Weissenfeld controlled his Me-110 with the code letters G9 + CM. Suddenly he receives a notice from Leutnant Jauk of the radar position, the signal said an enemy bomber was detected by radar . The night fighter turns his plane in the direction indicated. His radiooperator, Uffz. Rennette, spots the "Tommy" first. The clock indicates 10:40 p.m. on board when he detects a shadow of a plane on the ground. Further research confirms that it is indeed an enemy. The double rudder indicates that it’s a twin-engine Armstrong Whitworth Whitley. Whitley Mk V with Serial Number N1521 had recently been taken off at 17:55 from her base Linton- on-Ouse in Yorkshire. The purpose of pilot PE Peers and his four-man crew is Wilhelmshaven. Carefully Zur Lippe- Weissenfeld moves his plane behind the enemy for an attack.
